German Tech in the City of Gold

Record participation in 2022

This year’s GITEX was able to attract the record participation of more than 1,000 exhibitors, 100,000 attendees and over 600 investors from 192 countries. According to the organizers, it was the biggest show since its inception in 1981. GITEX’s “North Star” start-up village (formerly known as “Future Stars”) was able to attract three times as many exhibitors than the previous years. Exposed to a geographically very different public, our delegation exhibited for four days at North Star and made connections with investors, corporates, potential client, and even potential employees. Represented industries in our delegation were Cyber Security, Blockchain, HealthTech and MediaTech.

Dubai Superlatives

Dubai is a city of superlatives. Therefore, it came as little surprise that our matchmaking event (organized by German-Emirati Joint Council) took place on the 73rd floor of a business hotel. This was the physically highest event attended by the Digital Hub Initiative to date. GITEX North Star impressed with respect to technological trends and diversity of countries and visitors attending. In around 26 exhibition halls, equivalent to the size of 33 football fields companies, governments, tech initiatives and start-ups from around the world showcased their AI, blockchain, cloud computing, and big data innovations in Metaverse.

The visiting German delegation generated considerable interest among guests and visitors. Our group was honored with visits from the CEO of the Private Office of Sheikh Saeed Bin Ahmed Al Maktoum, member of the royal family in Dubai, delegates of the European Commission and many corporates and investors from the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. Last but not least, our participating start-up – Klangchat from Mediatech hub Potsdam – was nominated as a finalist in the Blockchain Supernova Pitch Challenge  (the biggest of its kind in the Middle East, Africa and Asia) – a huge success far from home!

United Arab Emirates the biggest market in the MENA region

The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) is an upcoming start-up region and received record venture capital investment of USD 1.2 billion in the first half of 2021 – a 13 percent increase in funding in comparison to the previous years. The majority of the investments went to the UAE, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Dubai ranks high among founders thanks to its many advantages including tax exemptions, 100 percent foreign property and facilitated founding and hiring processes.
