Chemicals, healthcare and sustainability – three areas of focus for the region. Besides being home to world-renowned companies in these fields, it is also currently regarded as one of Germany's leading business and science locations. The Digital Hub Mannheim/Ludwigshafen takes advantage of the innovative strength generated by this network of companies, research institutions and start-ups in the chemical and healthcare sectors.
The Hub located within the Mannheim/Ludwigshafen ecosystem helps companies in the chemical and healthcare industries to realise innovations and bring about the digital transformation. It benefits from numerous sponsors and established companies within its partner network, increasing its international appeal and providing it with additional resources. The programmes offered by the 5-HT Digital Hub Chemistry & Health include workshops, targeted matchmaking – as featured in the 5-HT X-linker programme, for example – and coaching sessions. The focus is on actively sharing ideas, providing further training and offering specific support to potential partnerships and projects. The Hub also focuses on sustainability and green energy within the development of both industries and creates a central platform on which players are given the opportunity to cooperate and co-develop concrete solutions.

Living Brain
No fewer than 4.5 million people in Germany suffer from cognitive impairments caused by a neurological disease. This may involve memory, attention or concentration difficulties. They have to relearn to do the most everyday of tasks independently. The interdisciplinary team at Living Brain wants to help these people, using gamified VR technology to support the therapy. Living Brain is currently conducting a study together with the German hospital company Asklepios Kliniken to test this completely new form of therapy in everyday clinical practice.
PipePredict und Endress + Hauser
Even though district heating is an established concept nowadays, monitoring the associated pipeline networks has always taken a great deal of effort. Thanks to the cooperation between PipePredict GmbH and Endress + Hauser SE & Co. KG, part of the district heating network of a major German city can now be efficiently monitored. As a result, operators can be informed about any faults in real time. The partnership between PipePredict GmbH and Endress + Hauser SE & Co. KG came about as part of the Hub's X-linker programme.
